The Choptank Riverboat Company’s reproductions of authentic tum-of-the-century true stern paddle wheelers operate out of Suicide Bridge Marina. The boats offer fully enclosed lower deck with heating and air conditioning with covered upper deck with a great view – perfect for viewing the Historic Choptank River.
The Choptank Riverboat Company started in 1997 with the “Dorothy & Megan” (DM), named for the owner’s, Dave Nickerson’s Mother (Dorothy) and Daughter (Megan). The afternoon lunch cruises, and weekend dinner cruises became very popular with locals and bus tour groups as well. In 2002 the “Choptank River Queen” (CRQ) was purchased and placed in service. The riverboats provide over 200 cruises each year.
Choptank Riverboat Co1npany offers lunch cruises, Crab Feast cruises, sight-seeing cruises, dinner cruises and special theme cruises including monthly Murder Mystery Dinner Cruises. The food that is served is catered by Suicide Bridge Restaurant and features local seafood and Eastern Shore favorites. The cruises are centered on the scenic Choptank River, viewing farms, homes, waterfowl and more along the water way. Watching the local watermen work the river, the skipjack Nathen of Dorchester, (built in 1994), and waterfowl that make their ho1nes along the river, provides for a pleasant sightseeing cruise. Choptank Riverboats are available for Public and Private Cruises.
Jamaica Point, Warwick River, Green Point, Town of Secretary, Indian Purchase, Oyster Shell Point, Chancellors Point, Choptank River RT 50 bridges, and the City of Cambridge, & Ca1nbridge Creek are all Historic Sites. The Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa & Marina is situated on the Choptank River shore east of Cambridge, MD. Completed in 2002, the resort is the only one of its kind in the MidAtlantic United States. The reproduction of the Choptank River Light House at Long Wharf in historic Cambridge was erected in 2012, the Lighthouse now serves as an icon for Cambridge and is open for visitation between May 1 and October 31.
Both riverboats were built in Freeport, Florida by Freeport Shipbuilding. They are true stem wheelers which is the only propulsion they use. Our boats are approximately 80′ long overall, 24′ wide, have approximately 4′ draft, and are USCG inspected for 149 passengers with lifejackets located under the steps and pilot house. Instructions and e1nergency procedures are located on the port side of the bar on the 1nain deck. They are powered by Cummins Diesels and use hydraulic driven paddles. Choptank Riverboats operate April through December.

Choptank Riverboats Cruise Info
The Choptank Riverboat Company started in 1997 with the “Dorothy & Megan”, named for the owner’s, Dave Nickerson’s Mother (Dorothy) and Daughter (Megan).
“The Choptank River Queen” was purchased and placed into use in 2002.
They are approximately 80 feet over all in length (63.5 feet legal length), 24 feet width, and draws about 4 feet of water. They are reproductions of the late 1800’s steamboats that traveled the Mississippi and western rivers.
They are true stern wheelers, powered by diesel engines, The smoke stacks are the exhaust for the engines. Paddles are driven by hydraulics. The riverboats average a speed of 6 knots.
Both Riverboats were built by Freeport Shipbuilding in Freeport, Florida. Our boats are USCG inspected – “T” Boat with certificates of inspection to carry a maximum of 149 passengers.
The boats are the same layout on the main decks, offering seating for 80 guests, a full bar, and restrooms. The mains decks are climate controlled. The upper decks offer a covered area with windows that allow an open deck feeling, tables settings or seats can be provided.
The Choptank Riverboats offer public cruises on the Choptank River out of Suicide Bridge Restaurant and can do private trips.
Sight Seeing cruises offer a 90 minute excursion.
While no food is provided, there is soda, tea, coffee, and a full cash bar.
Lunch Cruises are 2 hours.
Lunch is crab cakes & fried chicken with vegetables, potatoes and dessert.
Included is soda, tea, coffee, and a full cash bar.
Dinner Cruises are 3 hours and offer a choice menu of:
1) Crab Cake and Prime Rib
2) Crab Cake & Lemon Chicken
Served with a garden salad, vegetables, potatoes, and dessert.
Included is soda, tea, coffee, and a full cash bar.
Crab Feast Cruises are also 3 hours.
Your Crab Feast starts with Maryland crab soup coleslaw and local corn on the cob, then you are served fried chicken and fried clam strips, then the local Maryland Crabs that are for your enjoyment.

The Choptank River is part of the water shed area of the Chesapeake Bay. Our boats travel from Cabin Creek to Cambridge, Maryland.
